Perpignan Game Jam 2020 - Online Format
Even covid can't stop us from making games together! Come joins us online for an intense weekend of video game creation at the Perpignan Game Jam 2020.
Play Curious, NTWU and UPVD INCUBE are proud to announce the 3rd edition of the Perpignan Game Jam.
Obviously, this is a strange year, forcing us to deal with unpredictable and complex health conditions. We'll be providing an online format that allows us to keep the event on and as fun as always.
We're setting up a dedicated Discord server so that all the participants can chat, collaborate, and play together over the weekend. Coaches from the game industry will be available in order to help you debug your code, polish your sound, and get those animations looking right.
In addition, the event will be broadcast and commented on a Twitch live stream to highlight the projects, the jury, the coaches and special guests.
For more information, see the "practical info" section below.
Games? Jams? What is this strange thing of which you speak?
The term "game jam" comes from the the tradition of a "jam session" in music, where musicians improvise together to come up with new songs and new sounds.
A game jam is like a hackathon, where a bunch of people come together to create a game very quickly, usually over a weekend.
Usually, a theme is given right before the jam starts as a source of inspiration. Sometimes there is a prize for the "best games", but for most people the point of a game jam is the opportunity to meet others, flex your skills, learn new ones, and explore new ideas.
To get a better idea of what a game jam looks like, check out these videos from the 2019 edition:
Who can participate?
The event is open for all people 18 and over, whether this is your first experience or if you are a lead developer at a AAA studio.
Anyone is willing to come. Since you are making real video games, not just coming up with ideas, it's important to have some experience in programming, graphics, music, animation, writing, or anything else that you can put to use.
You can recruit your team ahead of time and come with them. Otherwise, you can form teams with others who are looking for your skills or who are into your ideas.
Minors can also participate, but they will need their legal guardians to first sign a disclaimer. Please contact us directly in this case.
We're proud to announce our jury for this year's event:
Like last year, we'd like to open the event with a conference to present the game jam theme.
More info on its way...

LudiConcept in the house
LudiConcept designs and produces boardgames with unique themes and a difficulty level that adapts to the players. LudicConcept will award one of its games to the winning team of the game jam!
Since the lockdown doesn't allow us to welcome you in person as we had originally hoped, we are moving to an online-only format.
A dedicated Discord server will allow all the participants to communicate. Coaches specialized in their domain of game design will be present throughout the weekend to help you get over whatever obstacles come between you and your dream game.
In addition, fun activities and interviews will be organized during the weekend, like musical games, artistic challenges, etc.
How much does it cost?
This year, we're asking for 5€ per ticket to help pay for the event, taxes and fees included.
